The town of Montespertoli
Villa Tuscany is just 2 mi/3 km from the lovely town of Montespertoli (population 13,300).
Beautifully situated against a typical backdrop of Florentine Chianti hills, Montespertoli is within easy reach of all the major Tuscan roads. Sitting at 257 m.a.s.l., Montespertoli is located only 18 mi/30 km from Florence and equidistant from other popular destinations like Siena, Pisa, San Gimignano and Volterra. The surrounding landscape is stunning, as gently sloping hills alternate with magnificent peaks. Everywhere the eye falls is a delightful glimpse of vineyards, olive groves, forests, villages and ancient castles - many of which can be explored during visits to the territory.
Montespertoli is one of the Tuscany wine capitals, with its renowned vineyards, cellars and annual Chianti Wine Fair. The wine produced here - as well as olive oil and bread - is well-respected in the region today as in the past. Visitors wishing to delve into a cultural itinerary in the area might want to consider the Museum of Sacred Art in the parish church of San Piero in Mercato and the Wine Museum with its restaurant/wine bar.
Thanks to its amiable climate and outstanding physical characteristics, the territory of Montespertoli is well-suited to the cultivation of the vine. Its cultivated surface covers about 1660 ha, of which 1400 are cultivated with Vino Chianti Montespertoli DOCG. The area has been nominated a superb wine-producing area in foreign reviews including “Vino" by Burt Anderson and "Italiens Grosse Wein" by Jeans Priewe. Certainly wine, together with local olive oil, is the area’s principle product, with Chianti wine being the prime objective of local producers.
Museum of Wine
Set on a glorious hilltop against the splendid scenery of the via Lucardese is "I Lecci" Center for the Culture of Wine with a Museum of Wine, assembly hall and wine bar.
Mostra del Chianti Wine Festival
Rooted in a deep and heartfelt farming tradition, Montespertoli has forever strived to preserve its original culture. As a result, various events that take place during the year are based in these typical farming traditions and celebrate the local products. In festivals held during the month of November the townsfolk prepare to face the long winter by tasting the new wine and chestnuts, as well as delighting in the flavor of the fruity new olive oil with toasted bread. With the arrival of spring and early summer, along comes the popular Mostra del Chianti wine festival. Usually held in late May and early June, it is a major festival centered on wine tasting and good old-fashioned cheer.
